During my time at Shaldon wildlife Trust I was trained on best practice for animal husbandry.My initial two months were spent being trained to run a section of the Zoo that featured, 35 animals (9 exhibit’s). Responsibilities of this section included; feeding, cleaning, health checks, enrichment and health and safety.The following 3 months I spent looking at 2years worth of data collected by the keepers. The data I was given showcased weight fluctuation’s in two Pied tamarins over time. During my research I used Rstudio to examine correlations of different variables (temp, footfall, food wastage) to gain a wider understanding of why weight fluctuated. The research done was valuable to visualise how outside factors can affect weight of captive animals.My final month at Shaldon was spent running the section I had initially been trained on.
