    My degree focused on the novel cuticular wax biosynthesis in the model moss species Physcomitrella patens. I engaged in countless lab presentations as both speaker and audience member, I engaged in seminars hosted by the botany department, I presented my research on multiple occasions to the faculty of the botany/forestry/zoology departments of UBC, I wrote an unpublished review paper on fatty acyl reductases, participated in a grant-funded foreign exchange technical program in Germany, and published my thesis to the UBC and Canadian archives. Some of the experiments I extensively performed were transforming Physcomitrella (homologous recombination and CRISPR-Cas9) and Arabidopsis plants (Agrobacterium), bacterial cells, and yeast cells with foreign plant genes; cuticular wax extraction and analysis of lipidic compounds from both plant and yeast lipid sources through GC-FID and GC-MS; PCR amplification and DNA sequencing; gel electrophoresis; RNA extraction and isolation; primer design; data analysis; plant husbandry and growth; aseptic technique; plant, bacterial, and yeast cell culture; and multisite gateway cloning.
