I performed independent research while supervised by a graduate student on components of the apoplastic fluid under immune-induced conditions and analyzed the effect this hostile environment has on the mutation rate of pathogen growth during infection. At this position I learned how to grow bean plants under controlled conditions and determined proper inoculation densities utilizing dilution series. Rate of immune response was determined by measuring electrical impedance. Once my experiments were completed, I presented my work to a panel of plant researchers and the scientific community of students and faculty at U of T.

I was required to work with and facilitate the needs of the event organizers to maintain their standards for the organization of the Front of House. I also managed the ushers’ time while they are scheduled to ensure the standards of the Isabel Bader Theater are met. I also worked with various departments within the Isabel Bader Theater and Victoria College to act on any other requests the clientele may have. I was also required to provide any medical assistance to patrons visiting the theater and was trained in Red Cross First Aid.

I was required to ensure each event ran smoothly, to provide an excellent experience for each patron who was a guest to the theater, as well as keep the safety of the theater at the highest level.

Some laboratory techniques I learned while at the CFRI were: isolating monocytes from a blood sample, quantifying leptin levels in patient blood serum, DNA and RNA isolation, enzyme chromatography.
