Throughout more than 25 years in healthcare, I have gained a firm understanding of the myriad issues facing health care organizations in today’s rapidly changing fiscal and regulatory environment. A passionate and energetic catalyst for positive change, my focus is on communicating and promoting the need for change, and getting all stakeholders excited about optimizing care and health of the populations served. I have consistently sought to enhance systems to reduce errors, improve efficiency, and encourage ongoing learning, ensure total compliance with state and regulatory bodies, and improve and promote education. A key emphasis has been on developing and implementing innovative delivery models and promoting technology in healthcare, particularly Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and electronic health information interoperability. My diverse experiences in healthcare management spanning clinical operations and hospital operations and in the areas of emergency medicine, internal medicine, and disaster response have included:• Providing medical leadership for the country’s largest prehospital ambulance service• Serving as Chair of the New York City Regional EMS Advisory Committee• Helping set standards for prehospital care in NY State as Chair of its Medical Standards Committee• Establishing national voluntary standards for emergency care as a member of the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee and the National Quality Forum Steering Committee• Serving as the Founding President of the American Academy of Disaster MedicineI believe that my combination of academic preparation and experience as physician and lawyer, with 25 years of healthcare management success in private practice and New York City trauma level one hospitals provides me with an uncommon grasp of the legal and regulatory issues affecting healthcare today. It has enabled me to lead organizations to the forefront of healthcare excellence in terms of patient safety, education, and delivery of care.
