Developing and leading Airbus Ventures’ investments in Asia, I am an explorer in search of other explorers, on a quest whose purpose seems clear — cherishing the biological and civilisational wonders of life on this unique home planet and responsibly stewarding its amazing and fragile biosphere, so that one day we can celebrate the discovery of complex life and civilisations on other worlds.Trained as an MIT engineer and NASA geophysicist, I take special interest in science-driven startups that can translate to these leaps in system advantage, attracting and clustering new value. Working closely with the Airbus mothership for over a decade, I have over 20 years experience investing & working with science & technology startups, and serve on the boards of several as director or observer.Prior to joining Airbus Ventures I also helped design and structure Royal Dutch Shell’s open innovation system for working with startup companies, guiding and integrating their Shell Technology Venture Fund and GameChanger initiatives. I led incubator and innovation centre design and engagement for the UK Government’s Digital Catapult, Electronic Data Systems, Shell, and others. Previously, I was a Financial Institutions Partner at Coopers & Lybrand in Singapore and Hong Kong, beginning my early consulting career at The Boston Consulting Group in Tokyo, after working with Japan's leading steel & shipbuilding enterprise in both engineering and corporate planning.I enjoy networking out to startups through my writing, speaking, and continuing research activities with UCL’s Centre for Planetary Sciences. Ever an explorer of the flights of imagination that drive us up the Vertical Axis from the deepest oceans to the stratosphere and beyond, I've advised both Google Lunar and Avatar XPrize teams, and always aim to highlight the unique role of startups around the world, in taking us to the next one.
