I am a freelance Lighting Consultant and Designer working mainly in museum, gallery and event lighting. I am available for both lighting design, or technician/focus work. I have been trained in conservation lighting, and I have an excellent track record of ensuring the right light levels for sensitive objects, without overly impacting on the viewing experience. I can specify and source lighting kit for large projects, indoor or outdoor performances, or private events. I have a lot of experience with installing temporary lighting into difficult places and solving lighting conundrums. I also possess a fair amount of small project lighting equipment.I have been working in lighting for over 20 years. I began in theatre and music event lighting, but now a large body of my work is also in museum and gallery lighting. I have provided lighting design and install for a lot of the permanent displays and most of the temporary exhibitions at the National Museum of Scotland, National Galleries of Scotland and National Library of Scotland, dating back more than a decade. I have also worked for numerous regimental museums around Scotland, the University of Edinburgh Library, the National War Museum, The National Museum of Flight, the Edinburgh Art Festival, and many smaller museum projects throughout the country.I have also worked in theatre lighting for Company of Wolves, based in Glasgow, and have lit many shows for other companies over the years, some of which have won Fringe First awards.Over the last few years, I have been organising the transition from tungsten/halogen lighting into LED for many of my clients, and I have acquired a lot of experience in this area.I have my own Lux meter, an IPAF ticket, and a CSCS card.My day rate is currently (2024) £425 a day, although I am happy to negotiate where budgets are tight.* Some of my work in 2024 has been lighting design and install for: 'Game On' (NMS), 'Cold War' (NMS), 'Lavery on Location' (NGS), Do Ho Suh (NGS), Women in Revolt (NGS), 'Renaissance: Scotland and Europe' (NLS), and 'Panoramas: the World in 360' at the Edinburgh University Library.
