About Lexi Connors

I've recently commenced my PhD candidature at the University of Queensland looking into regenerative practices in remote regions looking to develop Indigenous tourism post mining. In 2022, I completed a Master of International Sustainable Tourism Management at Monash University where my thesis assessed visitor perceptions, barriers and opportunities for Indigenous tourism in East Arnhem Land where mining occurs (my cover image is a picture of EAL from above).I'm always looking to connect and network with industry, government and other researchers, so please do get in touch via email: lexi.connors@student.uq.edu.au

Lexi Connors Work Experience Details
  • Young Tourism Network (Ytn)
    Support Specialist
Young Tourism Network (Ytn) Nov 2023 - Present
    Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
The support specialist role is responsible for assisting the Choose Tourism Sub-Committee with report drafting, meeting minutes and other activities related to the grant and other various committee initiatives. It is my responsibility to conduct research and gather information and insights for committee decision-making alongside supporting the Trusted Advisor Program Coordinator with the organisation and execution of the Trusted Advisor Program. Throughout the inception and delivery of the Emerging Tourism Leaders Summit I supported the project officer, and worked on sourcing, researching and managing speakers, and assisted with design work and printing.
  • Young Tourism Network (Ytn)
    Co Facilitator (Launchpad Program)
Young Tourism Network (Ytn) Mar 2024 - May 2024
The Launchpad Program is a 7-week professional development opportunity empowering young tourism students and professionals to approach their careers with purpose. Co-facilitating this program alongside the bright minds of Daniela Ruiz Gomez, Loretta Bellato, Pratyush Singh and Matt Sykes was a real privilege and has inspired me immensely for the movement that is the 'future of tourism'. Highlights for me were the range of (pressing) topics discussed each week: Caring for country and biodiversity, climate change and climate anxiety, diversity and reconciliation, the circular economy and addressing waste and empowering young people to instigate and instil change in the workplace. Our guest speakers were world class and student participation was a true testament to how young people are motivated to disrupt the industry.
