    I investigated the effects of acidic organic molecules on the morphology of single crystalline calcite. The objective of this research was to understand the mechanisms by which spicules in sea urchin embryos develop their smooth calcite morphology, which will allow for the development of more structurally advanced materials for medical and electronic applications. Techniques I used included sea urchin embryonic culture, scanning electron microscopy, and contact angle measurements. I presented this research at the end the program and wrote a final report about my results.

I also participated in a week-long research mentoring program for women in which I worked with a middle school student on an independent research project.
