A very, VERY, brief description of my still-short career as a physicist at the wilds of financial markets:I started my professional career in 2009 as an undergrad assistant at the Centre for Lasers and Applications at the Institute for Nuclear and Energy Research in Sao Paulo - Brasil.As a middle-class student with bills to pay, it didn't take long (it was at the end of 2009, to be specific) until I need some extra cash and I decided to use my physics skills on a hedge fund that delt with legal claims and high yield securities on our domestic market in Brasil. Not a lot of physics nor data analysis here, but I learned A LOT about endurance, mental strength and fast delivering which turned out to be really valuable on the following years.After that, in 2013, I was accepted for a position as a jr back office analyst at a single family office based in Sao Paulo as well, to learn (note: learning is an important driver of my interest - even above the paycheck) about the liquid markets of Brasil and the world. The back office give support for the trading desk, that works like a Global Macro Hedge Fund, trading securities across the globe and on all markets. A couple of months went by and, after figuring out how curious and hard-worker I was, I was invited to fill the position to be the trader, responsible for the execution and providing structure suggestions for the themes that we trade.As of today, I'm a quant at a systematic HF, living back my years as a scientist and removing the 'gut' of my trades. The path is long, but there is so much fun stuff to be learned!
