This requires a good working memory, due to the fact every test and each hospital and clinician having there own specific codes and profiles that, you have to remember.● I am well versed in relation to the standard operating procedures of my lab and have to keep up to date with changes to them, this includes the use of centrifuges, fume hoods and a 512 sample sorters.● Over the summer I was also requested to work full time, this allowed me to widen my skill set, and take on extra responsibility, within a smaller team due to working on evening shifts, such as coordinating between hospitals and the courier to collect both routine and urgent samples.● I have also helped new staff members develop relevant skills such as the opening and entry of samples onto the WINpath system Show less

I leant to use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), manage specialized sample types (such as sputum) and use laboratory equipment such as centrifuges.The ability to problem solve was essential, for example when multiple samples arrived in reception different techniques were frequently used to process them, the knowledge learnt was then applied in conjunction with initiative and previous knowledge to deduce how to solve the problem. Time management was a key part of this role as all samples needed to be processed within 4 hours. To ensure these standards were met a constant and efficient workflow had to be established, this skill continues to develop in my everyday life so I can ensure that any tasks I set myself are completed. Whilst working for Next I was exposed to a variety of requests and queries from both customers, colleagues and managers. Key facets of the job were problem solving, perseverance and customer care. Senior members of staff such as myself were allocated additional responsibilities; this included training new staff, ensuring staff were correctly allocated to all areas of the shop floor and addressing any problematic situations. During these periods I learnt how important it was to maintain staff morale, manage and work as part of a team whilst keeping focused on the customer experience. Show less
