Special skill: providing nurses with alternate medications or alternate routes of administration unique to the needs of terminal patients. Attending Interdisciplinary Team meetings to provide input on appropriate medication choices. Also: supervising pharmacy technicians, checking data entry performed by technicians, performing the final check on filled prescriptions, etc.It's what I remember from my last hospice pharmacy job, VERY busy, because in hospice pharmacy, urgency is generally part of everything you do. I love the staff at this place! Even when the workload rises to levels that approach stressful, everyone just does their best and gets the job done and they all have a good sense of humor about the types of daily annoyances that all pharmacists and technicians have to deal with occasionally. It was a great place to work and utilize my unique skill set.

I was with "Express Scripts/Legacy Medco" for nearly 5 years and it was the work they told us about in Pharmacy school in the late 1970's. I actually spent my entire day on the phone counseling patients about everything imaginable. It was the sort of thing you seldom get to do in a busy retail pharmacy. I was on one of Medco's "specialist" groups or TRCs (Therapeutic Resource Center) for Neurology/Psychiatry and joined the CPNP (College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists) and completed their online "Academy" training. (It seemed a natural fit after all my years with the State Schools in TXMHMR/TXDADS.) My experience with nursing home and hospice pharmacy has also proved valuable, since the a slight majority of the patients I counseled were senior citizens or patients with chronic, long-term pain issues. I was laid off due to a "right sizing" after Express Scripts, Inc. purchased Medco.

I oversaw all services provided by the pharmacy department.
