I'm a lifelong artist, educator, and social entrepreneur with a passion for participatory community development. Over the years I've developed a specialization in helping organizations and people create value at the intersection of community, creativity and entrepreneurship. I started the Backpacker Guide to Creativity in Vermont to share my love for this work at http://creativermont.co.Over the last twelve years I've developed and led turn-around strategies for makerspaces including HatchSpace in Brattleboro (VT), Artisan's Asylum in Boston (MA), and Generator in Burlington (VT). April 2013 to November 2014 I served as an interim Director/Appointee of Vermont's Office of the Creative Economy at the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.October 2011 to May 2012 I had the opportunity to serve as innovation prize advisor alongside the incredible staff at USAID's Office of Science and Technology, supporting the leadership team in the development of agency strategy to leverage innovation challenges to draw science and engineering innovation into international development. From 2008 to 2011 I served with MIT's Public Service Center to develop the IDEAS Global Challenge, an innovation competition that encouraged teams of students to develop and implement novel projects that reduce barriers to human well-being around the world. In May 2005 I created the Global Peace Tiles Project to foster the "visual voice" of children around urgent issues in their lives while building bonds between communities through art. These includes HIV/AIDS, climate change, war and conflict, and leadership, and community. Over the years, the Peace Tiles Project designed and supported mixed media arts workshops, international mural exhibitions, and artist exchanges in 22 countries.Prior to social innovation and entrepreneurship journey, I was the founding faculty at Booker T. Washington Public Charter School for Technical Arts (DC) and Senior Researcher and Founder, Democracy Lab for Innovation and Research at AmericaSpeaks.
