Worked as a full-time staff nurse on a 34-bed neurology medicine unit that include two 4-bed stroke rooms and one 4-bed video EEG room for seizure patients. Upon hiring, trained with a 2-week critical care course and oriented in various intensive care units in the hospital, passed the evaluation exam at the end of the course before serving a as stroke room nurse.Job responsibility include providing care to patients with neuro deficits and mobility issues. Challenged daily with assignments with patients who have mental instabilities or neurological disturbances. Routine care includes patient assessment, medication administration, IV placement, insertion of straight catheter and foley catheter, wound dressing change; coordination with health care team and other departments, communicate needs of patients and family members, patient education etc.; closely monitoring stroke patients including monitoring vital signs, maintaining records and reporting significant changes to the primary care team.
