Lia Buzanovsky is a native of Brazil, a Geographer, holds an MSc in Economics and Territorial Development, and a PhD in Public Health. Since the beginning of her career, she has been studying zoonotic diseases and their environmental and socioeconomic determinants. She has been working at PANAFTOSA-PAHO/WHO since 2013 as a Geographic Information Systems Specialist, applying her interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of Epidemiology, at the human-animal-environment interface, mainly focusing on risk analysis, spatial analysis, and the application of epidemiological methodologies and tools that can improve the prevention, surveillance, and control of zoonotic diseases in countries. Exchanging and sharing knowledge in educational activities is one of her favorite tasks, and over these eleven years at PAHO/WHO, she has conducted over 20 training sessions for official veterinary and public health services in the American Region, aimed at boosting countries' capacities in surveillance and control of animal/zoonotic diseases, as well as preparedness for zoonotic emergencies. Previously, she worked in the Public Health field at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) in Brazil, as well as in other areas of knowledge (environment, agriculture, fisheries, education, and culture) in Brazil and Spain. She has an extensive fieldwork experience in developing countries and is experienced in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
