Lia Chiarelli is the Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer for Pacific Northwest Ballet, directing the development and stewardship of PNB's broad audience and donor communities. She was named Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer in 2019 and oversees a revenue budget of $18 million with a staff of 25. This cross-functional team of marketing, development, and box office professionals is aligned in their mission to grow, retain, and motivate audiences across a continuum of engagement. During the Covid years, PNB transitioned from stage to screen, resulting in a first-of-its kind digital season serving fans in the Pacific Northwest, across all 50 states, and around the world. Nurturing audiences at home kept PNB's audience close and allowed PNB to come back strong to in-person performances in 2021. PNB is rebounding from the pandemic with audience levels equal to and often exceeding pre-pandemic attendance, and a growing donor base. She believes in serving the community while balancing the tenuous financial realities of a modern performing arts organization. Under her leadership, the overall size of the PNB audience continues to grow, while the organization implements pay-what-you-can, sensory-friendly, and other ticketing and access programs designed to welcome young and new audiences. Previously, Lia served PNB as Director of Marketing and Communications managing significant audience development initiatives during her tenure. She was the project lead for the Building Audiences for Sustainability multi-year grant from The Wallace Foundation, and worked on the Wallace Excellence Awards, PNB's first multi-year Wallace grant. She developed the marketing campaigns for PNB's major new productions and activities, including George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, a major PNB School expansion on the Eastside, and PNB's 50th Anniversary Season. Lia serves as the Marketing Chair for Dance/USA, the national field service organization for dance and on the Communications Committee for Inspire WA, an advocacy group for funding arts, culture, and heritage organizations. She is a founding member of PNB’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility committee. Lia is from Seattle, WA and earned a degree in Speech Communication from the University of Washington.
