In my role as QC Analyst, my main responsibilities include; maintaining and updating operating procedures, the calibration of all equipment that is used in the QC lab, dealing with customer complaints by re-testing retained samples and advising the customer on my findings, taking part in a daily odour evaluation panel on all finished products to ensure they are suitable for the customers, working with the R&D department regarding analysis and method development for new products.Other duties include, advising production staff when products don't conform to specifications and recommending corrective actions, completing planned and unplanned maintenance of laboratory equipment, working with other laboratory staff to ensure a safe working environment is maintained, I am also responsible for attending daily production meetings with the management team in place of the laboratory supervisor whenever necessary. I also provide holiday cover within the lab and help out during busy periods. The analysis that I am involved in includes; GC, GC-MS, Densitometer, Titrations, Karl Fischer, Refractive Index. I am also responsible for carrying out various wet chemistry techniques to analyse samples for the following things; ester content, balsamic acid content, non volatile material, saponification value.

Working in an ISO 17025 accredited analytical laboratory, I am involved in the analysis of marine bunker fuels. Working as part of a small team, I am responsible for performing a wide range of methods associated with the analysis of residual oils, (fuel oils) and distillates, (gas oils). The purpose of this analysis is to ensure that our clients are supplied with fuel that meets the regulations for the prevention of air pollution from ships, (also known as MARPOL annex VI). Another purpose of the analysis is to ensure that our clients have received fuel that meets the specifications for marine fuels as stated in the ISO 8217 specifications. The following tests are carried out on the fuel:Viscosity, Density, Water Content, Sulfur content, Total Acid Number, Total Sediment Potential, Pour Point, Ash Content, Flash Point, Metal content by ICP, Waste Chemical Screening by GC-MS, Micro Carbon Residue, Cetane number for distillates.I am also responsible for: the preparation of the samples, general maintenance and calibrating of the laboratory equipment, the inputting of results into a live database, preparing sets of standard solutions and reagents that are required by the analytical methods.
