Industrial Automation Engineer
CurrentIn the Interlocks controls and Monitoring Section of the Vacuum group (TE-VSC-ICM) I work on the design, development, commissioning, maintenance and support of industrial control applications (PLC + SCADA, hardware and software) to control vacuum equipment and vacuum processes. I work on various projects, such as the design of the whole control architecture (from hardware to PLC software and SCADA UI) for new equipment and processes and the consolidation of existing control software to ensure compatibility with new hardware. The main responsibilities of the role include:• Siemens S7 PLC software development (SCL, STL, FBD, GRAPH) for large industrial installations (LHC and other accelerators at CERN) using native functionalities and CERN’s frameworks (UNICOS and specific Vacuum Controls Framework).• Configuration, development, deployment and maintenance of Siemens S7 series PLCs (S7-300, S7-400, S7-1500, S7-1200, ET200-SP).• 2D CAD electrical design, development and procurement of industrial control crates for vacuum equipment and processes. • Configuration and management of large-scale Industrial Networks and Fieldbuses (Profibus-DP, Profinet, Ethernet).• Development and maintenance of control software for vacuum devices (gauges, pumps, valves) and processes (gas injection) and integration of those devices in the current system (PLC and SCADA).• Configuration and development of Siemens SCADA systems and user interfaces (WinCC-OA).• Production of detailed specifications for new projects, technical reports, user manuals and procedures and delivery of support to the operation teams.• Re-engineering of legacy control systems (Siemens S7-300/S7-400) and control software (STL or code incompatible with new S7 HW) to bring them up to date with current S7 hardware and software.• Maintenance and Commissioning of the Vacuum Control equipment and control software in the Particle Accelerators at CERN.
