As I depart from the scholarly life and gradually transition into the working world, I reflect on my life thus far and realize that it has only just begun...In my professional journeys, I have drifted from drafting power lines next to Dad in our basement to managing half a million bucks at a mill with steam shooting out the sidings; from flood prediction and payroll services modelling for the government to power meter accuracy modelling for the largest exporter of commodity goods on the Island. In a similar vein, giving back to society has opened up possibilities ranging from managing one of the largest student clubs on campus, to reconnecting with my spiritual side by helping spread the joys of mindfulness meditation, to taking advantage of my 18 years of experience living with an autistic sibling by helping supervise athletes at the acclaimed Operation Trackshoes annual track & field event for the disabled. Trackshoes along with a fledgling hobby interest in personality psychology piqued my interest in mental health further, motivating me to organize events for an on-campus mental health awareness promoting club; drawing from my event-organizing expertise, I day-of ran the late-night portion of our benefit concert, including playing the opening set. While I feel that my life has drifted from that of your typical engineering student, my nigh-on-complete degree has left me with a feeling of self-actualization as I learned how to think critically; to manage my time effectively; to hold my persistent perfectionism in check by detecting the "good enough" point of a given solution; and to expose my artistic side through circuit design, the latter of which allowed me to enter into the public art scene via a $600 interactive mushroom display at TEDx Victoria 2014.In summary, I hope to take what I have learned from all 3 of these journeyed paths and to seek what life has to offer in whichever avenues happen to direct my trajectory ahead. One love!
