During my time working in Learning Support, having spent over a decade in further and higher education, I have developed many key transferrable skills that I hope to employ in a new career. Working in learning support requires excellent communication skills and most importantly active listening to help foster good working relationships with students and to gain their trust. The relationships that I formed with the students that I worked with will stay with me and this undoubtedly the most rewarding aspect of the role. The role of a learning support advisor requires that you gain skills in managing competing demands while working under pressure. I feel confident that I can work in challenging environments and work to deadlines. In this role it is essential that you are flexible to changing demands and my experience has helped me keep developing my skills in order to keep up with changes in the secort, changing demands from the service users, and a fast-moving technological space (as well as constant process and procedure changes!). In recent years, I have taken a strong interest in data and data analysis and how this can be used to improve decision-making. To facilitate this, I recently completed a PDA in Data Science with Edinburgh College where I gained proficiency with Microsoft Power BI and Power Query. I am currently in the process of trying to write a novel, which I hope to self-publish and following a short break, I am looking forward to starting to explore a new career making use of the skills I have outlined in my employment history.
