Investigated the development of polymeric dental filling materials with superior durability in the oral cavity. Synthesized a novel monomer that mimics the chemistry of aquatic mussel adhesive proteins, that was inspired by a monomer previously synthesized in the Santerre Lab for the repair of craniomaxillofacial deformities (the latter has since been spun out of the Santerre Lab as a startup company).Conducted industry standard mechanical testing of dental adhesive formulations at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Dentistry Labs, Biosafety Level 2. Applied adhesive formulations to human teeth, and artificially aged the bonded interface in an accelerated aging medium.Authored a thesis report titled "Synthesis and Evaluation of Bio-inspired Monomers as Functional Components of Dental Adhesive Resins".The report consisted of an extensive literature review, methods, results & discussion, and conclusion.

Worked within a Capstone team to develop a design solution that can accurately measure whole-body vibrations (WBV) transmitted to power wheelchair users during use.The clients (Cathy Choi, OT, and Robyn Davies of the Seating Clinic within Bridgepoint Active Healthcare) required a low-cost, clinically-appropriate means of comparing WBV transmitted to users in different power wheelchair/cushion combinations outside of a controlled laboratory setting.Developed a design solution dubbed "SmartVibes" which consisted of four major subsystems: a TI SensorTag (sensor-microprocessor module), a mechanical subsystem (for safely fixating the SensorTag between the wheelchair user and the seat cushion), a back-end data processing module (which pulls data from the SensorTag and computes relevant vibration metrics as per ISO 2631-1) and a front-end user interface (consisting of a mobile app that displays the computed metrics).The design solution is currently in use by the clients and by occupational therapy students working at Bridgepoint Active Healthcare)

The goal was to understand a) how they affect balance (while stepping in/out of a wet bathtub), and b) if they should be required in Canadian Building Standards as a means of preventing falls in a high-risk area in the home.Primary analysis showed that vertical grab bar use provided the greatest improvement in falls prevention
