Gateshead Base - Training My time at the Gateshead base is mainly spent doing a variety of training either hands on training on the Dive rigs, Dressing and Undressing various nuclear work clothes, Working with Respirators, Pro Track Machinery, Roberts Machinery, Torc Machinery, Facing Machinery, Grinders or other hand held power tools and performing in a wide range of safety situations. I also learn in a class room the theory, processes, safety and layouts of anything from jobs, different power stations, radiation control, telemetrics, EPD’s, expectations and responsibilities. EDF Nuclear Power Stations (Heysham, Hunterson, Hartlepool, Dungeoness, Torness, Hinkley Point, Sizewell)Vessel Entry WorkAs part of the Vessel Entry Dive team we go inside the Nuclear Reactor. Using specially fitted suits attached to a clean air source outside the reactor we go down a long ladder in extreme heat with limited vision to a boiler to perform different mechanical procedures on the pipe work. We also set up and stripped the vast control hub complexes and work within C2/C3 areas.Outside Vessel Squad Work My job includes adapting to new tasks daily and assuring it's done safely, working in a team with riggers, welders or on my own on selected plant work and valves around the station on request. This can be anything from stripping down the desiccant in C3 conditions removing and emptying any radioactive waste within it, working in the pump house repairing and stripping large cooling pipes used to pump sea water into the nuclear reactor to cool it down, working in a multi-nationality task team to make repairs to the Reactor Cooling Pumps using a variety of hydraulic equipment and other specialist tooling to meet the giving tolerances on the job, working on the roof to gained access to work in a radiation controlled area to strip and repair important air cleansing filters or working in the turbine hall doing general site maintenance.

During my time at Hashimoto Ltd I worked in Paint Plant C as a spray painter on a number of different car parts and car components. I also spent sometime in the inspection area of the plant looking after the quality control of all parts going out the door to customers. We worked on a three shift basis days, backs, and nights and where required to hit set targets.

During my time with Premier Precision Engineering I fully completed my apprenticeship in advanced engineering. This involved meeting the required standard to obtain a NVQ level 3 in Advanced Engineering. Throughout my training with Premier I have been trained in inspection processes checking the completed jobs met all company standards before they go out the door to customers, I am fully trained and able to operate measuring equipment such as CMM’s. I have also been trained in fitting skills to produce and to make completed jobs better improving or doing burring, finishes, tapping, etching and other aspects of fitting. As well as this I have experience in operating hydraulic machinery, CNC milling and turning machines. I was regularly left to operate machines to produce jobs; I also checked these jobs met company standards and drawing specification as I went along. My main training is in manual milling I am able to complete jobs within the allotted time and to specified tolerances requested by the drawings. I have experience on all the following listed machine types, Lynx, Puma, Pro Track, Hass and Mazak.
