This key legislation created entirely new challenges for the bank related to how customer data was handled, retained and shared, with legislation becoming law in May 2018. A key element of GDPR legislation is the ability to provide customers, on request, with all of the data stored about them by the bank. Naturally, due to the complex and confidential nature of the banking business with multiple legacy systems, this was a complex and mission-critical area that required careful co-ordination and planning in advance, and rigorous testing to achieve alignment with compliance requirements. This involved in-putting all data into a bespoke management system, scheduling and compiling all paper work for the maintenance teams and compiling plans and 5 direct daily reports. Teamwork, efficiency and attention to detail were all essential to ensuring that our department ran smoothly.
