Born in Derbyshire - but raised in rural Norfolk - I started my journey into the outdoor leisure/education sector in 2013 and never looked back.Starting out as a marshal at a paintball site I gained valuable experience until the chance came to take part in an apprenticeship scheme in 2015. The apprenticeship gave me a good foundation in terms of the theory behind the industry as well as yet more experience delivering a wide array of activities and off-site excursions.In early 2017 I joined the team at Go Ape. This role gave me a chance to see the more leisure-based side of our industry. My time there also gave me the chance to use thorough inspection skills on a daily basis - allowing me to become both efficient and accurate. I was also given the opportunity to train new members of the team for the first time in my career.2021 saw me return to North Norfolk where I swiftly gained qualifications and progression within the company. Gaining 2 promotions within a year, I achieved the role of team leader. During my time as team leader one of my main responsibilities has been carrying out inspections. This has allowed me to put my working at height and PPE inspection skills to good use and allowed me to develop my organisational skills. As a self confessed "gear geek" I love shiny bits of kit, which allows me to research and recommend the best equipment for the purpose.During the off season I can often be found on adventures around the most wild and remote areas of the UK with my partner (also an accomplished outdoor professional), keeping our skills honed and relevant. The best way of avoiding skill fade is to keep using them!
