Operations and Commercial Manager – leads and directs the operations, contracts and commercial management of all new mining non process infrastructure (NPI) projects (camp design, supply and installation; admin offices design, supply and installation; regional airports and design, supply and installation of terminal buildings; and design, supply and installation of specialist storage facilities, workshops, laboratories), housing (mining and remote community) and associated regional projects. Project Director / Delivery Manager contract role for the new multi-billion dollar Sydney Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) infrastructure works - import/export and domestic fully automated intermodal rail terminals, 80 ha of automated warehousing with incorporated roof solar power. Led the Tactical Group project team overseeing the design and construction coordination of the Stage 1 infrastructure ($75m) - 600,000m3 bulk earthworks, roads, utilities (power, communications and sewage), WSUD and storm water management (included a 1.2km 5m x 7m open concrete culvert). Stage 1 delivered on time despite ongoing state government planning approval delays and client major redesign resulting in initially unplanned and logistically/commercially challenging ongoing daily multi-contractor interfaces.

• Sydney Project Director/Senior Project Manager and Superintendent roles for the successful construction of RMS road intersections, local council roads and major utilities (14m deep gravity trunk sewers, trunk water mains, underground fibre optic and HV installation). Project values from $10m to $30m. • Bid leader / manager for Calibre Consulting’s successful engineering design proposal for the LDA’s Whitlam 3,000 dwelling project in the ACT (awarded March, 2017 – approximately $300m plus construct value). • Bid leader / manager for Calibre Consulting’s successful engineering design proposal for the ACT/Federal Government’s Healthy Waterways project (WSUD design contract awarded March 2017 – approximately $250m construct value).

Tender Consultant (short term contract role) - full tender document commercial and risk analysis and provided recommendations/qualifications for the tender submission for the civil infrastructure for two major $800m plus resource projects. My advice was taken to avoid the ill executed Gina Reinhart Roy Hill iron ore project in WA. Some 80% of local and national contractors on the project have currently ended up in court with the EPMC (Samsung).

NRW was a service provider to the mining industry during the recent WA mining boom – the company grew rapidly from a $100m to $2bn turnover with all the nascent problems associated with such rapid growth. As a Business Architect Consultant, I undertook a 18 month liaison role between the IT and Business Operations units through a BPM review process to enable the successful implementation of a new company wide Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) covering payroll, purchasing, IR, finance, plant and maintenance and project costing/reporting system.

Macmahon Contractors were a major civil and mining services contractor who had won a new road and airport project for a BHP/Rio Tinto JV in Yandi, WA. Unfortunately the project was lagging well behind schedule with a frustrated BHP/Rio Tinto JV board calling for immediate corrective action.In a Project ‘Doctor’ consultant role, I was responsible for the design and site implementation of a highly successful recovery program for the $60m BHP/HI 9km Main Roads WA sealed access road, day/night use 2km sealed runway and airport terminal building. Although a tight 8 month contract, the project was still completed on time with increased profitability leading to the award of further BHP and Rio Tinto projects.

Two and a half year exclusive General Management, BPM, and Project Consultancy service:• Project Director ‘Doctor’ trouble-shooter role for all mismanaged projects including final client claim closeout negotiations: eg $60m Collie Power Station earthworks; and $20m BHP executive staff housing project, Port Hedland. • BPM review of all bid and tender processes leading to the tendering and successful award of $10m to $500m construction projects.• Identification and acquisition of a specialist remote location sewerage treatment design and construct company ideally suited to mining camps and remote communities. Ongoing role as General Manager of the BGC Hydrotechnics wastewater treatment business – tendered, won and executed various sewerage infrastructure projects in WA – eg, Murrin Murrin Nickel Mine sewage infrastructure and a multitude of other mining sewage infrastructure projects.

Operations and Commercial Director for specialist global industrial oil and gas services contractor throughout SE Asia (Cape East PLC - scaffolding, painting and insulation) – 5 years tenure included establishment of five new highly effective country based executive teams as key to the expansion of our services in the region. Identified and developed new corporate opportunities with major clients, particularly, in the oil and gas sectors. Commercial analysis and direct negotiation of all industrial service contracts including all contract/commercial management, claim preparation and negotiation.We successfully tendered and executed US$750m worth of new business in SE Asia through negotiated strategic alliances, Joint Ventures (JV) and stand- alone status. Dramatically improved profitability and operational performance on all existing and new contracts with the introduction of new basic procedures, computerised project information systems and staff incentive schemes.
