The Senior Data Architect role was focussed on delivering technical solutions across the Data Management and Architecture customer base. I was responsible for the delivery of work from two data warehouse development teams and delivering my own large scale technical projects. I was expected to take a lead in setting development standards, mentoring team members and leading by example. I managed two Technical Architects performing their one to one’s and setting their objectives. Our platform was the Microsoft BI stack and I was involved in projects ranging from simple corrections and fixes to migration of large analytical systems into the cloud. I also performed reviews of customer warehouses, working with them to plan out an effective reporting system that works at all scales. I was expected to document my work to the highest standard and help others to improve their documentation. I attended many of the senior meetings in my directorate and I was expected to give my opinion on the direction of technical projects.

The Operational Lead for the West region was responsible for the delivery of work from the West development team. This involves fully understanding the development projects that are being worked on and the work that is coming up. I was involved in reviewing all work packages and monitoring the team's progress through the work by following and prioritising the Agile sprints. I worked to keep the team productive and that the velocity of the sprints is kept at healthy by reviewing their output and supporting the overall technical direction of projects. Working with the Technical Architect to ensure that the team has the correct skills, support, training and tools to complete their tasks. Along with the other operational leads across the organisation I make sure that all the technical teams are working to a common set of standards. This includes the methods of development, the overall design of our ETL processes and our customer facing Data Marts. I have to keep abreast of all the latest developments in data storage and processing. In this role I also had my own technical projects that I worked on; this has included designing several iterations of the linking and chaining algorithms at the heart of the CSU's flagship population health management system Pathways. Adding a sophisticated logging system to our processes to enable us to track performance of processes over time and work out exactly where the processes could be improved. In this role I was also responsible for the delivery of the data management services customer contracts in the West region. This is both internal and external contracts and involves ensuring that all KPI's are met and that the customer is happy with the level of service they are receiving. There were regular contract review meetings with the customers where I developed productive customer relationships.

The Technical Architect role was responsible for the delivery of data warehousing projects for NHS patient activity across the whole footprint of SCW. These projects were largely based on National data sets and were developed using the Microsoft BI stack; SQL, SSAS, SSRS and SSIS, there was also some scripting in C# and VB where there was the need for custom tools to be built. These projects had to complement an existing enterprise scale data warehouse and meet exacting customer and internal standards. I was also responsible for the technical direction of the team and all the projects that they were working on as well as helping set the direction for all the data warehousing development teams across the organisation. This was achieved by actively participating in meetings, writing expectations and user guides for staff and leading by example in terms of the standard of my own work. I was the direct line manager for the 5 other members of the team as such I was responsible for the quality and the timeliness of their work as well as setting their objectives and conducting one to ones. To help do this I move the team into a structured agile way of working and out of the unstructured best effort approach that was in place beforehand. This meant running the sprints, understanding the workload, helping with estimates and planning. The Technical Architect was also responsible for the smooth operation of existing warehouse processes. Any issues had to be understood and corrected, whilst keeping the customers informed of any issues that might affect their data or the delivery of it.

I was responsible for the my teams delivery of projects, this includes the quality of their work and ensuring that they are finishing projects on time. Aswell as this I had a series of my own projects to work on. I managed the team and performed their 1-1's and helped them with their personal development. I was expected tomake sure our standards were kept to and that these standards are evolved along with changes in either national policy or developmenttechniques. I am also expected to be an active contributor in CSU meetings and have a working knowledge of how our development is currentlyprogressing and how our processes work. I had required to operate at a senior level, helping to guide staff and shape the way that we design our processes.

I was responsible for designing and building solutions to technical problems within the business. These would range from specific tools for the management of staff in the call centre to cubes and data mining solutions that would predict which were the right people to call at the time when they were most likely to be available. Most of my work was developed in SQL and C# but there was also some development in Java. I would support the smooth operation of our call centre by; ensuring that our SQL servers were running efficiently, there were no DBA's in the team so I took on most of DBA work running and monitoring the servers performance over time and making sure that our tools are bug free and the reporting is accurate. I was also heavily involved in designing and developing our next generation of reporting and analytic systems. This involved working with different teams across the organisation to understand their needs and designing a solution that worked with them. I delivered this in an agile way to enable the team to offer feedback as quickly as possible. I was also responsible for our change control process, interpreting users requests and scheduling changes to our environment. I was the deputy in the team and would attend senior management meetings and other client meetings when the Technical Services Manager cannot attend or if my knowledge of a project was required. I managed two Technical Campaign Support Technicians and was responsible for their performance and the development of their technical skills.
