Through my work experience in landscaping and the service industry, I'm very excited to take what I've learned into the business field. I am presently in my first year of the Commerce Co-op program at Dalhousie University. I aspire to major and pursue a career in finance. My various work experiences such as landscaping, prep cooking, and working in grocery gave me a broad understanding of how different businesses function and what employees must do to maintain the business model. My current position with Black & McDonald Ltd. is at the Dwyer Hill Training Center in Ottawa, Ontario. This position involves working in a military environment which got me government-level security clearance. Being in this area I need to be a very respectful and serious employee always ensuring my work is done efficiently and at a high standard. Patience is an incredibly important skill, as when cutting grass around cars and off of main roads I must ensure it is safe for me to work without putting others in harm's way. Also, the work is very physically demanding which provides me with great determination skills. In addition, I was constantly working with a crew which greatly enhanced my ability to work within a team to plan and get work done efficiently. These skills are very applicable to my goal of working in finance as I must be comfortable working long hard hours at a high standard on a team.My current studies gave me a broad understanding of analyzing financial statements along with macroeconomic trends which interests me in finance. By looking for a co-op in finance and continuing my studies with this focus I strive to achieve a career in finance.
