Participants will investigate shortest path planning algorithms to solve problems such as finding routes in a grid or a map, playing puzzle games, and routing deliveries. Shortest path planning algorithms are used in many systems to plan ahead for problems which can be specified by starting conditions, desired goal conditions, and sequences of actions that can be taken.The work will focus on algorithms designed to operate in more limited memory settings or when problems are too large to be solved optimally. We will investigate and adapt existing heuristic search algorithms such as beam search and budgeted search. We will design and implement methods which help to adapt for the error in heuristic estimates in a variety of ways, such as promoting selection of diverse sets of paths to pursue or adjusting the heuristic values based on observed error.
