I led a team of 500+ employees across five continents, which included not only the construction and commissioning projects, but also the Technical Field Services and Consultancy Divisions.

Contracted through Shanahan Engineering I worked for GE (General Electric) to provide additional experience and management input for the final phase of the commissioning of the Bord Gais 445MWe CCGT Power Plant. I personally wrote the Grid Code Testing procedures that were approved by EirGrid for a rigorous testing regime required by the TSO (Transmission System Operator).

Worked on multiple proposals, with the most interesting and challenging being the preparation of a £130M proposal under FIDIC contract structure for EDF. However, due to my training and the ethos within GE, my work usually involved full engagement with the works and self-performing of many of the more technically specific tasks.While initially working as a mechanical technical advisor, I also turned my hand to turbine control and electrical panel start-up and commissioning. This gave me a great feel for the overall operation of the power plant and prepared me for taking a more senior role as a lead technical advisor on some of GE’s largest projects and also the management of teams that included steam turbine and balance of plant technical advisors and associated craft.Throughout this period, I worked on the installation of new units, relocation of older units and maintenance of operational units.
