It forced me to apply skills that I had been honing during my several years in the industry, as well as quickly develop new skills in order to turn contacts I had made in to paying clients.Beyond merely selling ads, my time on the sales team has given me a better understanding of the advertising and marketing world, and has definitely made me more commercially-minded. In the aftermath of any campaign we underwent a process of campaign evaluation which was presented to the client, with a view to a continued business relationship.In almost twelve months that I have been in the role I have harnessed my natural ability to think commercially and plan strategic and effective cross-platform marketing campaigns. During the publisher's forays in to new media I would dabble in TV presenting, appearing regularly on the Street Commodores LIVE! DVDs.By 21 I was running the country's largest-selling niche motoring magazine and the various extensions of the brand, including it's profitable merchandise line, it's growing social media presence and perhaps our proudest achievement, it's national charity event that saw 4,500 enthusiasts raise over $180,000 a year for charity.Being a niche publisher, Express was forever encouraging us to think commercially and creatively generate new revenue streams for the magazines to help them stay profitable and relevant in an age where print media was challenged.
