Developed an FEA model of the entire XPT luggage car underframe structure to assess modifications undertaken during post-derailment repairs. Provided engineering assurance the modified design was compliant to vehicle shock and fatigue loading criteria3. Undertook a root cause analysis investigation into traction engine overheating on the Mechanised Track Patrol Vehicle (MTPV). Radiator performance was analysed via temperature and air velocity testing and a new radiator fan programming change was successfully implemented resulting in an 8°C reduction in coolant temperatures4.
