Employed as a process engineer working in the process engineering team within ABB Consulting. I have been involved in:• Completing numerous Relief Stream Projects including relief load calculations, pressure system identification and scenario identification for both high and low pressure process units in oil and gas and chemical industries• Completion of Front End Engineering Design for oil and gas client• Updating and presenting on the IChemE Accredited training course – Pressure relief; A proven approach.• Working within a process safety team, providing the role of technical scribe in a series of HAZOPs and PHRs for both the oil and gas and chemical industry• Collecting process safety information on client’s sites for use in process hazard analysis• Design of a water circuit for university chemical engineering teaching purposes• Building Aspen HYSYS models in dynamic and steady state• Assisting with the development and implementation of internal proceduresWhilst internally seconded to the process safety team, I have completed consequence modelling using PHAST software for oil and gas and chemical clients including COMAH sites. I have carried out occupied building risk assessments, written safety cases, major accident prevention documents and COMAH scenarios for a range of clients.I have also completed a project looking into the feasibility of Battery Energy Storage Systems as a potential business opportunity for the Power Grids section of the business. This included a review of current offering and market opportunities giving recommendations to the business moving forward.

While working for ABB, I was placed on the Chemtura (now Lanxess after a take over) site at Trafford Park, I completed a pressure relief review of the manufacturing process including a three tower distillation train, storage tanks and associated equipment. The project involved identification of pressure systems, relief scenarios and completion of relief calculations. Particular consideration made to material decomposition at elevated temperatures and vacuum systems.The role required communicating with multidiscipline individuals in order to gather required information and understanding of the underlying process by returning to first principles when required.

Part of a project team undertaking retrospective review of flare systems including; • Identification of potential relief valve sizing scenarios, with additional identification of data required for the completion of the calculation • Performed pressure relief calculations • Validation of the ABB PEL Pressure Relief Spreadsheet• Verification of Pressure relief device sizing calculations.• Analysed the ability of a flare to accommodate the most onerous situation, reviewing individual feed to the flare. • Reviewed and verification of Overpressure Philosophy documents, Drains philosophies, Cause and effects• Completion and verification of High Pressure/Low Pressure (HP/LP) and High Temperature/Low Temperature (HT/LT) Interface Register, Isolation Register. • Exposure to design and safety standards e.g. API and ASME.• Peer review of reports prior to issue to clients.• Data gathering for PSiD proposal for BG Aberdeen• Use of Local Databases and Documentum• Quantified P+IDs, PSVs, Process Schematics, BDVs and Cause & Effect Matrices associated with the proposal.• Cross – referenced PSV Master List with the P+IDs provided.
