When seeing the passion my brother had for helping others with substance abuse, l decided to take a break from the arts and move to Louisiana to work in the field of substance abuse and mental health. I started as a temp certified nursing assistant running a detox unit in coordination with our doctor. I became a certified crisis mitigation/suicide prevention specialist and worked my way up to the position of director of rehabilitation. Overseeing all rehabilitation related staff and patient functions, working one on one with patients for peer support counseling, doing technical courses and sessions with patients to get them to understand past trauma and coping mechanisms. I then moved up to the position of case supervisor where I was responsible for all daily instruction and supervision of care staff, all administrative psycho/social/medical information, ensuring sessions were being run properly by staff and that students were progressing. Most importantly I was responsible for treatment planning each case to meet individual client needs

As a Gallery Director my main goal was organizational expansion. I wore many different hats in this position. overseeing promotion, writing press releases, recruiting new artists, instructors, and members for monthly exhibits and classes. Organizing, scheduling, and hanging all exhibits. Running receptions/handling public engagement. Setting up community engagement activities. Working with the New York state council of Art and local Orange County Arts Council on event promotion and co-ordination. working with my Board of Directors to secure grant funding and with benefactors on capitol campaigns to maintain financial solvency. This is where I fully experienced the breadth of working in the world of professional fine arts. In this time I personally had 4 successful solo exhibits, I successfully executed over 60 fine art exhibits and worked with over 100 different fine artists. I organized or personally instructed countless volunteer programs to provide art to senior citizens, underprivileged children, and the community. I also coordinated hundreds of workshops/classes with both local and traveling artists. This gave me a massive appreciation for the dedication and hard work of professional working artists and not only the tremendous sense of community built around the fine arts, but its significant impact on our society and community.

As an assistant director I oversaw media promotion through email, social media and print promo. I ran reception functions, hung monthly exhibits within our 3 gallery spaces, coordinated class schedules and programs, and assisted the instructing artists in workshops. In this time, I started working as a private art instructor myself and discovered my passion for teaching. This is also when I had my first solo exhibit as a professional artist and really solidified my passion for professional fine arts.

As a contracted arts educator for K-8th grade I worked out quarterly curriculums that met NY state guidelines with the goal of getting students to utilize the elements and principles of art at their appropriate grade level. I executed lesson plans with each grade level and was responsible for quarterly grading assessments. I also got the opportunity to work with other educators to help them implement visual and tactile learning methods into their own curriculums for math, science, history, and English. This really helped me understand the necessity for kids to use art to engage with and understand abstract or complex concepts and information about the world around us

As a program director I built lesson plans for art workshops that could be executed through tactile demonstration rather than verbal instruction. I helped coordinate classes and assist in promotional events. Most importantly I got the life changing opportunity to work with severely disabled/nonverbal children and adults suffering from a range of disabilities. This truly was one of the most profound experiences I had with art as it taught me the power of visual arts when it comes to the universal understanding between people.
