I've worked in the UK music industry for over 30 years as a respected radio plugger, band manager, indie record label owner and industry consultant. In August 2021, I teamed up with music marketer Rich Hearn to establish a new music agency, Humans & Other Animals. We partner with independent artists and labels to raise their profiles. My broad experience with Ask Me PR (formed out of renowned radio & television promotions company Red Alert) has connected me with all the major record labels: Warner Music, Sony, EMI, Universal, BMG, Chrysalis, London Records, and their subsidiaries like Deconstruction, ffrr, etc. In addition, I've also collaborated with most of the large independent labels: Mute, Rough Trade, Factory, Beggars Banquet, XL and One Little Indie, on some of their most successful campaigns. Start-up labels and emerging bands have benefited from my experience in raising their profiles before signing, including Oasis, Elbow, Doves, The Wobats, The Coral, Badly Drawn Boy, and The Ting Tings. In addition, many artists rose to fame with the help of my securing initial radio play like The Killers, Bjork, Goldfrapp, Moby, Pulp, Suede, Richard Hawley, The Wombats and many more.Depeche Mode, Biffy Clyro, Feeder, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Prince (promoting his only UK No.1), and the prestigious Mercury Music Prize (19 years) are just a few clients I've represented. My clients have expanded to other creative industries in recent years, including theatre, film, and education. For example, the BIMM Group approached me to help establish their hugely successful music schools BIMM Manchester, BIMM Birmingham, The Institute for Contemporary Theatre School, Manchester and Performers College Birmingham, plus Screen and Film Schools in Manchester and Birmingham. I have worked closely with managers, live agents, sync agencies, publishers, national and regional radio and UK media. My knowledge and experience of the music industry extends further, having managed several artists and running two small independent record labels. This experience led me to teach the BA Music Business module at BIMM Manchester in 2013 & 2014.
