As part of this role I manage the Quantity Surveyor aspects of two multi-million pound frameworks covering term maintenance works in Southampton and West Sussex. These include building quotes for the client, collating the site information onto cost value models and submit a valuation to the client for payment. Alongside these major frameworks I also QS spot tenders, for example a c£0.5 million scheme as a tier two contractor with the ultimate client being Heathrow Airport. I have built cost value models for the Southern Region which assist the Commercial Manager for the monthly accounts submitted to Aggregate Industries UK and also provides a guide for the EBITDA forecasting process. On a regular basis I attend site works to gain a deeper understanding of operations including: site inductions, supervisor duties, machinery and resurfacing of the road. Being out on site helps speed up the communication process (Compensation Events/Early Warning Notifications) to the client.I also create and manage cost loaded programs for works on the M25 Connect Plus network. This encompasses liaising with the QS and Contracts Manager on a weekly basis reviewing works, past, present and future, to build the program which is sent to the client. These cost loaded programs show the commercial impacts of program changes and help give pointers to the operational team in ways to minimise risks, as well as informing the client of value implications.In addition to the above mentioned duties, I also manage a tonnage program which details the quantities and shifts worked on each job. This forms the foundations for identifying missing paperwork allowing me to chase the relevant teams. Prior to works I produce a forecast and raise my concerns to operations before giving risks a chance to materialise. After the works are completed, the forecasts are used to compare the outputs and queries raised to operations as to what happened on site as this often leads to financial losses.

As Project Trainee I got the opportunity to work for Aggregate Industries as they laid the Concrete and Asphalt for the A380 South Devon Link Road Civils Project. My role entailed working closely with the site team as well as the QS. Out on site I would be with either, the Site Engineer which I would produce dip records to show how thick we had laid each layer of material, or the Asphalt gang in which I would assist the Supervisor by filling in the laying records to show what tonnage was laid between certain chainages and measure up the areas before we laid the materials. In the office, I would use the information gather from site to produce as built drawings to show what areas were done on certain days, I would also sit down with the QS where I would assist him in forecasting, and collating evidence for Compensation Events. I would also sit down with the technical manager to help sort and file material data produced by the site technicians.

In this role I was out in the shop floor, seeing to customer needs and making sales. During the times where I was not seeing to customers I was tidying the stock to make sure it looked presentable at all times.
