About Liam Smith

Hi! My name is Liam and I am a flight dynamics engineer at Amazon working on Project Kuiper.Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.I am also pursuing a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. My research goal is to develop a first principles approach for space sustainability. To do so I am focusing on research topics spanning space situational awareness, space traffic management, astrodynamics, estimation and tracking, decision making, economics, policy making, and more. Previously I was a researcher at Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Center. I worked on a handful of research projects with the ultimate goal of becoming an expert in Space Situational Awareness, focusing on orbital dynamics and trajectory optimization. I started my career in aerospace at Cal Poly SLO where I obtained my Bachelor's and Master's in aerospace engineering. While at Cal Poly I worked extensively with cubesats and Cal Poly's cubesat deployer, the Poly-Picosatellite Orbital Deployer (P-POD). My thesis was focused on optimizing the deployment of cubesats. If you are interested in contacting me please feel free to reach out.

Listed skills include Orbital Mechanics, Matlab, Aerospace Engineering, Spacecraft, and 12 others.
