The Lead Enterprise Architect is the head of the Enterprise Architecture Practice, and is responsible for establishing, publishing and evolving the IT Architecture of Intertrust Group to support the Group’s strategies. The TDA was the chief technologist in the organisation, responsible for strategy and planning, consulting on projects and migrations, approval of changes before the Change Approval Board and ensuring all activities performed by IT Service Providers are in the best interests of PaperlinX Europe.The TDA role was created to replace application support specialisation and IT support roles once the company's outsourcing agreement was implemented. Tens of operating companies and sites across nine countries in Europe are migrated into a Future Mode of Operation – a unified technology, process and management offering for all locales.Any outsourced IT operation operates with conflicting interests from the provider and customer. The TDA role involves balancing the demands of internal customers with the capabilities and contractual obligations of the IT provider. Drawing on a depth of technical expertise and business awareness, the TDA mediates the two to arrive at reasonable solutions.In addition, the company underwent an extensive re-branding to introduce a single Europe-wide identity from the operating brands requiring e-mail, web, ERP and connectivity harmonisation without disruption to the business. A new graphical messaging system is a very big change for users accustomed to green-screen terminals. Managing the operation and usage of the new system was a big challenge as users discovered the ability to send large quantities of peronal messages, including videos and music, to their newly-connected internet friends. The role was further strained by lagging technologies and incomplete control over firewalls and other defense techniques. My role was to manage these elements and improve them as the outsource contract progressed.

After completing the migration of users from a midrange green-screen corporate messaging system to Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, my role was to manage the deployment and connectivity of the system with partners, fax systems and other internal platforms. As these requirements were fulfilled, I moved into firewall management and network redesign to create a more integrated approach to internal and external connectivity.
