I worked as a lab and field technician. Much of my work was with a study on sustainable nitrogen fertiliser use and disaggregated emissions from nitrogen on grassland and arable systems. Tasks included experimental set-up, sampling of soil, gas, biomass and water, processing of samples- soil (moisture, nutrient content, PH), gas (prep for analysis) biomass ( wet and dry weights, nutrient content), water (nutrient content, turbidity).In Johnstown I also worked on several other longer term studies on nutrient fate in farming systems. One of the interesting side projects I worked with was looking into the effects of urine patch nitrogenous volatilisation from cows who's fodder was spiked with DCD.
