Profile bio

About Liam K. Burt

As a chemist specialising in fundamental organometallics and catalysis, my research has focused on the development of new synthetic strategies and catalysts for chemical processes. I am highly experienced in a variety of chemical techniques, and utilise these tools to characterise reaction intermediates to inform reaction design. With a passion for sharing my research findings, I strive to communicate to both the scientific and public communities: the former through peer-reviewed articles in academic journals and conferences, balanced by science communication during National Science Week with the public. I am deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of chemists, having refined university chemical curricula, co-supervised undergraduate research students to journal publications, and teaching awards for services during COVID-19. As a chemist working towards a more sustainable future, I am excited to collaborate with other scientists and engineers to develop innovative solutions to address environmental challenges and preserve our precious transition elements. I thrive on the unknown, live for pressure scenarios, and my core value is striving to be “the first one in”.Outside the laboratory you will find me working with my hands, building race cars from scratch or a hydroelectric generator to show children sustainable sources of electricity. As someone who refines systems for a living, optimising myself is also a priority.
