Managing two teams, improving department processes, assisting with the ongoing migrations post acquisition, while trying to improve communication and collaboration throughout the growing organization.

Responsible for the delivery of Workday’s Expenses product, and having the right people to maintain and grow it. Working closely with management, the development teams and key stakeholders Liam ensures alignment coming into the 6-month release cycle, setting the right environment to mentor and grow his direct reports, recruit where the budget allows, and tech debt is prioritised as much as the new features. Outside of the product area, Liam helped evolve several leadership practices to maximise productivity during changing times, including the introduction of a scalable virtual onboarding model, a flexible collaborative approach to rotating developers, and the simplification of existing alignment processes across the pillar following a company restructure.

Staying within the Financial sector, Liam led the EMEA Settlements product area. Moving into management Liam guided the scrum teams matured into a responsible, performant group, resulting in the delivery of numerous customer facing features, addressing essential tech debt, and created a healthy and motivating environment to thrive and grow. Three of Liam’s reports are now established tech leads, with the next promotion fast approaching.

Joining Workday as an application developer, Liam quickly became a key contributor across the EMEA Settlements teams, and Dublin’s AppDev community. While always there to consistently deliver within the developer role, Liam thrived on the leadership side, starting from his nomination to take ownership of the scrum master role, he regularly experimented across team formations, approaches to addressing tech debt and customer feedback, and creating a company-wide community of practice for scrum masters. This role led Liam’s career into management.

Since joining Firecrest I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience to date, across both the IT and healthcare sectors. Focusing on software, the main aspects include enhancing and improving core modules, identifying any potential weaknesses, and assisting in the progression and further development of those around me. With projects structured around Java EE, spring-hibernate and detailed testing, and with strict scrum practices, skillets with tools such as maven, JIRA, SQL, guava, extJS, jenkins, checkstyle, and robot framework, amongst many more are essential. Working on both the server and client side, in a linux, intelliJ environment is a very exciting and rewarding opportunity, and one which I aim to make the most of.

Develop several projects within the payment industry. Employed originally as a graduate, but quickly became a key and influential member of rapidly expanding team. Operations focus greatly on maintaining productive systems, upgrading applications to new and reliable technologies, and expanding our project base to offer new services. Towards moving to PCI DSS compliance, documentation and procedures are of a high priority through out the company.Key projects:Lead developer on design, development, maintenance, support and integration of our multi-functional 'wallet-based' web application, highly customisable through both client and server side. By providing the core functionality of several specialised web services, this project has several deployments currently live and processing volumes of traffic.Responsible for the key expansion of our internal core Reporting System, requiring additional requirements to be identified, integrated, and demonstrated with existing and potential clients. Initial tasks included de-normalising the database, upgrade to latest versions of Java, Spring and Hibernate, and migrate and centralise all existing data.Oversee, design and produce an administrative CRM tool, integrating with existing data sources, and working closely with clients on a regular basis. Through scrum development, this isolated project offers ease-of-access when accessing customer database records, to a rising international sports-based web service.Integration and expansion of an existing VOIP based service through a restricted API. Restore and maximise the potential of an aging third-party web-based application. Developed through java 1.4, front end development was required to protect the back-end system, offer 'more' functionality, and present to the customer in a modern and reassuring manner.

Department: Store DistributionEnsure all other departments recieved their correct orders, on time, and in perfect condition.Delivering special once off requests, and also regular tasks such as filling the water machines in each department.Seasonal contract.As I was new to London, this was an excelent way to settle in quickly.

Offered an opportunity in the software headquarters of Ireland for LMI Ericsson, priceless experience and valuable knowledge was obtained from a successful summer placement. As part of the Performance Management Test team a varied scope of tasks were available, and opportunities to progress beyond presented themselves following several successful weeks. The majority of all tasks were completed through UNIX.Key projects:Migrate existing test suites into an online test management application, in order to manage, evaluate, and improve upon existing test cases. Tasks included tracing test suite information from other teams, integrating the test suites into the new system, and training team members how they can continue the process thereafter.Design and develop a macro based server automation process for retrieving and manipulating telecommunication related information, before presenting clearly the information required.Update internal WIKI and develop and apply procedure to ensure information is maintained, reused, and correct.

Through Beasy Ltd, mechanical engineering, a commercial foundation of Java and CAD development was established. During the six month placement, the Beasy flagship project gained and expanded to provide more portability and quicker functionality. Large FPSO units were mapped through a pre and post processor, directly associated with commercial contracts with the company. Although technology advances were limited throughout this placement, commercial and practical experiences were invaluable, and irreplaceable. Key projects:Replace existing polarisation database with a customisable, portable, text file approach. A front end was required for this Swing based desktop application, along with import and export functionality. Data included the structure and coordinates of 3 dimensional objects.Full scale models of FPSO units and oil rigs were mapped through the software pre / postprocessor application GiD. The models were migrated through the newly created database, and manipulated through Beasy's flagship application. Tasks include obtaining full size maps, adapting a productive procedure into place, and completing objectives with a large amount of detail.
