Upon leaving school, I completed both a HNC and HND course in Computer Aided Design. From this, I attended West of Scotland University in order to gain my BSc Honours degree in Computer Aided Design. My dissertation which focuses on creating a teaching aid for a pilot operated relief valve. This has involved me completing extensive research on various types of relief valves and how they work. From gaining this understanding, I have created a 3D model of a pilot operated relief valve, creating an accurate animation showing the process of how this works. From this, a teaching aid will be developed using 3D printing. My years in further education have given me many opportunities to further develop my knowledge and understanding in manufacturing techniques. I have worked with programmes such as Creo Pro Engineer and using the Computer Aided Manufacturing CNC and injection moulding features. Through practical assessments and research in theory, my knowledge has increased in both CNC and injection moulding manufacturing processes. The use of finite elements has enabled me to carry out highly accurate analysis on mechanical components. I have also completed modules in project management and currently learning advanced operations management, using programs such as Witness.Through my eye for detail, the standards of my drawings are very high, resulting in me receiving A’s in my CAD coursework. My good sense of timekeeping has helped me greatly throughout my years in education. It has allowed me to be organised in my studies and have coursework submitted before they are due.
