Working at the dice box my role consisted of two parts. Firstly, I was responsible for helping customers to select and learn board games. Customers varied in age as we catered to ages 2 and up. As such game selection must be tailored to the groups age, interests and current knowledge. The second part of the role was making and serving drinks and food. I also regularly took on the role of shift supervisor.

My research looked at Fe-based coatings for their use in fireside corrosion protection in biomass fired boilers. This research is focused into two main areas:Material manufacturing processesCoating technique and processing parameters play an important role in determining the density, adhesion and performance of components. My research focus on two major coating techniques; HVOF spray coatings and Laser cladding. I work to optimising the coating process for the deposition of Fe-based alloys onto boiler grade steels, and investigate the microstructural differences between the techniques.Fireside Corrosion PerformanceFe-based alloys offer a less expensive alternative to more conventionally used Ni-based coatings when looking for candidate materials for coating components exposed to a biomass combustion environment. In this area I looked into the fireside corrosion performance of a number of candidate materials. Looking at both simulated, and in operation biomass environment, to determine their suitability as coatings for heat exchange components.

I worked at Quarry Park during the university summer vacations. I was responsible for staffing the on site shop, coaching beginners new to the sport and maintaining of the course and grounds.
