Steady-state solution was gained by reducing the residual error from ~1e-04 to below 1e-08. The steady-state result was used for superheat parametric study, and good agreement has been seen between the model and plant observations. - Developed MATLAB code to calculate the PDAS (primary dendrite arm spacing) evolution, which matches experimental measurements;- Made formal presentations to project sponsors for feedback and further collaboration;- Learned and implemented bubble breakup and coalescence UDF (EE-DPM model);- Developed 3-dimensional RANS CFD model for fluid flow with electromagnetic stirrer;

As a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS), I utilized cutting-edge techniques, such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to design, build, investigate, research, and improve multiple steel-making projects:- Developed application-driven CFD multiphase (Eulerian-Eulerian and Discrete-Phase) models for bubbly flow in steel ladle furnace using commercial software ANSYS FLUENT; Successfully developed breakup and coalescence User-Defined-Function user subroutines for argon bubbles; Results matched with plant measurements (slag eye openings) within 10% error.- Developed turbulent reacting-flow model for natural-gas-and-pulverized-coal combustion in steel blast furnace; Exhaust gases' composition were used for validation purpose, and good match has been achieved.- The model was further used to determine the best insertion depth of natural gas and coal injection nozzle. Great capital save by optimizing operating conditions was achieved with CFD simulation.
