Graduate Research And Teaching Assistant
Project: Cryogenic ion vibrational spectroscopy study of proton-coupled electron transfer model dyad complexes• Constructed the experimental platform of cryogenic ion vibrational spectroscopy (CIVS) by designing, assemblying and testing the home-built photofragmentation time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and have 4+ years of experience of daily operation and maintanance.• Led the project to investigate the strong intramolecular hydrogen bond in proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) model dyads with CIVS and observed a highly red-shifted and very broad (> 1000 cm^-1) OH stretch transition.• Unraveled the origin of this very diffuse OH stretch transition by the Franck-Condon-like progression of the high-energy OH stretch and low-energy soft mode transitions, and reported the spectra predicted by vibrational second-order perturbation theory (VPT2) with the progression model to reach a very good match with the experimental spectra.• Produced deeper physical insight of the PCET model dyads by calculating the 2D potential energy surface of the proton and applying an expanded Hamiltonian that couple the proton degree of freedom with dozens of normal modes to predict better-matching spectra via collaboration with Prof. Edwin L. Sibert III• Synthesized the PCET model dyads.• Installed the Nd:YAG laser pumped OPO/OPA-(DFG) system for frequency-tunable scanning.• Implemented the electronics for power supply and driver control of the MS system, with experience in PCBdesign and fabrication.• Created the LabVIEW data-acquisition program and the Python spectrum prediction program.Project: Ultrafast transient and 2D CIVS• Developed the first research methodology of ultrafast nonlinear and multi-dimensional vibrational spectra of cryogenically cooled ions.• Integrated acousto-optic shaping of the ultrafast pulse from Ti:Sapphire laser into the experimental platform.• Composed the AWG waveform for the acoustic wave to shape the multi-pulse pulse train.
