Project focused on quantifying transpiration from a paired plot- representing native and invaded forest types in the leeward Ko'olau Mountains. This project required that I learn how to build sap-flow sensors (heat ratio method) and develop a basic fluency for coding in R to support with data management, analysis, and visualization. My responsibilities included installing and maintaining a full climate station; data management; analysis and interpretation of sapflow and environmental variables; and the development of written and visual content to share project results with various audiences, including a funder report and a published thesis.

This position mediated interactions between various groups and the arboretum; foremost being that of facilitating field trips for PK through middle school. Additional educational experiences were conducted for homeschool, high school, undergraduate, and graduate level groups. There were also ample opportunities to develop curriculum, often collaboratively, focusing on the resources available at the arboretum.

Conducted actions aimed at the management of endangered plant and animal species threatened by Army actions on the island of O'ahu. Actions included construction and maintenance of ungulate proof fences; predator control of endangered snails; rodent control around plant and bird populations; monitoring of wild and out planted populations; landscape scale vegetation monitoring; collection and management of GIS data; collection and processing of plant reproductive propagules for the purposes of seed storage, garden collections, or out planting; weed control around managed populations, at landscape scale, and of incipient invasive species within management units.

Co-lead day camp for 7-12 year olds. Activities included art projects, science projects, plays, free-time, and field trips, all revolving around facilitating positive relationships between the environment and scientific concepts.

This position took place in a remote field camp on Kure Atoll. It focused on invasive species removal in order to restore habitat for nesting sea birds in this wildlife refuge. Additional actions completed included population monitoring of mammal and avian residents, growing and out planting of native coastal species, marine debris removal, data collection and management.
