I lead a multidisciplinary team of economic and fiscal policy experts who provide analysis, policy advise and evaluation to the Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Somalia. My current focus is on ensuring the successful implementation of Somalia's wide ranging macro-economic, financial, and governance reforms to achieve debt relief under the HIPC process.

Currently focused on attaining debt relief for Somalia through the successful completion of reform benchmarks guided by the International Monetary Fund and supported by international partners and the International Financial Institutions.

Advised the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion on key bilateral and multilateral issues. Extensive foreign travel to promote and connect Somali Foreign Policy objectives to the pertinent international issues of the day including security, trade, as well as regional and global integration and multifaceted cooperation. I served jointly as the official English language speech writer to the President of Somalia for this period with full recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I served as a Non Executive Director with specialist responsibility for Support, Service Improvement and Compliance. I work with staff, the Senior Management team, local and national partners and professional advisers to fulfill my duties.

I have worked with many private, public and third sector organisations as a consultant, community connector and trainer to advance knowledge and understanding of refugees, the Somali community, its culture and present struggles and successes in the UK. I am a senior Associate of Transparency Solutions and have advised Small Medium Enterprises, community organisations and local leaders on integration, effectiveness and engaging with service users, customers and policy makers. I have a passion for Business, Human Rights, educational equality and community and International development. I have for the last two years advised and given speeches on the Somali peace-building process, Diaspora engagement, security and bottom up community development and engagement. Further, I met with and worked alongside key British government institutions such as the Home Office, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Somali British focused NGOs to promote and advocate for good governance, Human Rights and institution building and strengthening in the fragile Somali State.I am a lead researcher with Transparency Solutions and our findings have informed local and national policies on issues as diverse as Policing, Community Cohesion and Diaspora relations and engagement.

I served as the lead social inclusion advisor focusing on the key areas of education, employment and political engagement and empowerment. In this role I oversaw the entire operation of the Somali Youth Forum, the young people’s play and engagement arm of the charity and also established, managed, sustained and strengthened partnerships with key national and local policy makers, donors as well as service providers such as Bristol City Council, the British Home Office, and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. I balanced this with my later role as the charity spokesman. In addition, I initiated and managed the successful youth work experience project which assisted some of the most vulnerable young men in becoming ready for employment. I presented key social exclusion and poverty policy briefings locally and nationally as well as delivering four key note speeches and organizing five multi-disciplinary conferences. Further, I lead the refugee integration project. In the last two years of employment I delivered lectures at Bath Spa University school of Education to over 300 trainee primary school teachers on cultural awareness and educational provision as well as Supplementary schools and their role in the wider education attainment debate.

I volunteered one day a week at this local law firm specialising in Community law. My main duties include researching areas of Immigration and Housing law, and assisting in reviewing failed asylum legal cases in order to establish possible grounds for appeal or a Judicial Review.

As the producer and co-presenter of the weekly hour long Somali language current affairs programme my main duty was to generate original ideas which were communicated creatively through the popular radio show to a wide range of Somali listeners in the UK. I established a strong relationship with listeners through the discussion and presentation of key topics that impacted on their lives such as housing, inequality, poverty, social exclusion, education as well as more culturally sensitive issues that questioned and explored what it means to be a Somali British person today. As the lead producer I oversaw three researchers and carried out research and booked key speakers for the themed programmes.
