Working across six states and a wide variety of subjects, I provide geospatial analysis, data visualization, and data management services to an organization with over 80 attorneys and 110 staff. My work at SELC has two primary objectives: First, to support the cases brought by SELC in the defense of the environment and healthy communities in the South. Second, to help our communications team effectively tell the story of these cases and the complex environmental and social issues contained within them. To these ends, I design maps, charts, and interactive web applications for use in courts, public outreach, and internal research.

Working within the Office of Research and Development, I provided community technical assistance with two federal data mapping tools - C-FERST and EnviroAtlas. By connecting city, institutional, and community partners with data on environmental health and ecosystems services, I enable decision-making informed by cutting edge data science.

Through customized analyses of energy burdens, racial disparities, and economic conditions within electric cooperatives, I enabled community partners to leverage their networks for utility-level policy change.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Working with faculty researchers, I wrote a comprehensive typology of environmental justice statues among fifty US states. I then applied environmental justice screening methodology to highlight characteristics of landfill siting in eleven states.

I mapped over a million contacts in nine states to identify outreach opportunities and appropriate policies to promote the equitable access to clean energy for low-to-moderate income and communities of color.

Assisted in community based participatory research and neighborhood organizing in East Durham. Based on findings from these efforts, I developed research materials including maps, case studies, and policy recommendations to enhance community organizing on the theme of affordable housing.

Synthesized data across multiple sources to summarize state-wide energy resources and consumption patterns for North Carolina. My analysis assessed the environmental impact of electricity generation, taking into consideration impacts on water resources, air quality, land use, and human health.

As an instructor, I developed and taught curriculum for wilderness education program serving forty elementary school aged participants.

Engaged in key roles throughout the production of environmental justice documentary film projects including field production and logistics, grant writing, budgeting, office management, post-production supervision and research. Identified and established relationships with communities affected by the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.

Taught a college access course to thirty-six low-income, first generation students. Organized two National Days of Service, placing over 200 students in 13 different worksites around the Austin metropolitan area.

Organized campus-wide programming for annual Civic Engagement Series. Managed and trained 6 volunteer program directors. Implemented a new volunteer program teaching soccer skills to disabled youth in Northfield, MN

Proposed and implemented an independent research project to assess public opinion on ethanol production in four Minnesota towns. Interviewed over thirty stakeholders, conducted community survey, and developed complexity coding protocol for interview data. Authored an undergraduate thesis awarded distinction from the department of Political Science at Carleton College.
