I currently work for the NHS in Dermatology as a ‘Waiting List and Medical Secretary Administrator’ under the Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Specialist Surgery Care Group. Here I work alongside numerous consultants, nurses, doctors and surgeons. As a medical secretary, I ensure patients clinical letters read accordingly and sent out within the trusts time frame; along with any admin and referral letters. I ensure that patient's results and prescriptions are dealt with efficiently so there is no delay with any of their treatment. It is my duty to make sure that my assigned doctors leave reflects onto their clinics, ensuring they are cancelled in a timely manner and patients are notified and rectified with a new date as soon as possible. I deal with patients, hospital staff and GP practice over phone to help deal with any enquires which will help aid the patients clinical needs. As a waiting list coordinator for a (MOHS) specialist skin cancer surgery programme my responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Maintaining and managing waiting lists to ensure patients are appointed in a safe and timely manner. Use appropriate booking processes and databases to facilitate the management of these lists. Removing, adding and appointing patients to and from the appropriate lists. Liaising with consultants about certain matters to ensure the department meets national and local targets. Regularly liaising with clinical nurse, doctors, surgeons, specialists and consultants to implement any clinic changes, additions in response to the changing needs, staffing or technical issues etc. Assist in Investigations into specific patients if they have been waiting for an appointment or any complaints related to clerical function. Responsible for managing consultant annual leave requests by reducing or rescheduling clinics and surgeries accordingly.
