About Libby Mccoy
I am a Research Assistant at the Georgetown Wimp Lab, where I study salt marsh ecology and its interactions with arthropod biodiversity and ecosystem services. I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology at Georgetown University, where I took courses on topics such as conservation biology, ecology, and evolution. My core competencies include GIS, statistical analysis using R, and scientific field work, which I have developed through various projects and activities on and off campus. As a Research Assistant, I have been involved in measuring and classifying pupae, identifying and sorting collected arthropods, and data entry. I have also developed my skills in various lab tools, such as microscopes, R software, and Excel. As a Student Fellow at Georgetown Red House, I contributed to developing new models for teaching and learning and pioneering innovative programs on campus. I designed class integrative activities and helped to redesign the Baker Courtyard space to be a sustainable, innovative campus hub. I also worked as a Land Conservation Intern at Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, where I used GIS to prioritize land for conservation and identify paths forward for the organization. This internship also involved participating in land stewardship work and species surveys out in the field. I also engaged with volunteers, landowners, and donors to facilitate successful events. I am passionate about environmental issues and how they relate to social justice, diversity, and inclusion. I hope to return to my hometown of Richmond, Virginia and am currently seeking full-time employment in Richmond. I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the world.
