About Libby Scheiern
Dr. Libby Scheiern has over 40 years of educational experience working with students from kindergarten through college. Libby has a Ph.D. in Curriculum Instruction and Design from the University of Illinois, a Masters from Pepperdine University, and a B.A. from Principia College. She began her career teaching upper elementary and middle school students in one of the leading private schools in St. Louis, where she became a lead teacher, designed curriculum, developed a summer academic program, served on the Board of Trustees, and served on the ISACS task force. Nine years later she moved to California securing a teaching job at a private school in Camarillo, CA. While at the school, she developed a social/emotional curriculum. Following this experience, Libby founded and directed her own school, Camarillo Scholastic Academy. Here she further developed her leadership and administrative skills, and actively taught students, developed curriculum, and built a community of learners. The school’s success was due to the close partnerships formed between school leadership and students’ families. Eight years later she moved to Elsah, Illinois to teach at the college level. She taught and mentored teacher candidates, developed faculty, and directly administered a wide range of academic programs. By 2009, she applied what she learned as a teacher and professor of education to establish the Center for Teaching and Learning at Principia College. In addition, she became the Associate Dean of Academics. After 20 years of working in higher education, she returned to the classroom teaching middle school students. Currently, she is working for The Albert Baker Fund, developing a mentoring program and administrating the scholarship program. During her career, Libby has been nominated three times for “Teacher of the Year,” received the Presidential Award for Exceptional Leadership, received the “Professional of the Year for 2015” award by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide for outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of education, and received the Distinguished Professor Emeritus Award.Libby has published a book chapter, written an assessment handbook on student learning, and four articles focused on assessing student learning. She has presented papers and workshops at over 25 national conferences that were peer-reviewed. And, Libby has served on three Board of Trustees for independent schools, and was the co-leader of an assessment committee for the Academy of Student Learning with the North Central Association for the Higher Learning Commission.
