10-week research project titled “Airway Epithelial Cells to Study Chronic Lung Disease” conducted in junction with the Newcastle Centre for Rare Disease. - Grew and maintained small airway epithelial cell cultures, collected from a healthy donor and a patient with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The maintenance period of cultures ranged from 3 months to 2 years.- Conducted sandwich ELISAs, lactate assays, PAS assays and an ussing chamber experiment to quantify and compare the physiological traits between healthy and IPF cells. Additionally, I assessed the reliability of using extended cultures within future studies, as IPF is a disease of ageing.

- Independently developed a predictive model for e-liquid solubility, to accelerate the liquid development process of BAT's vapour products. Through this project I expanded my technical lab skills from e-liquid formulation to nicotine handling whilst simultaneously learning a new skill; coding. - Investigated the sensory and toxicological profiles of compounds for discovery work streams.- Explored office design and ergonomics to further improve team motivation, inspiration and collaboration.Successfully drove a multitude of projects in parallel to one another, establishing strong time keeping and organisational skills. These projects involved cross-function collaboration, strengthening my ability to effectively communicate with experienced professionals of diverse skillsets and backgrounds.
