Training through operant conditioning while the secondary trainer performed other tasks. Some days I would take the role of secondary trainer and perform tasks, such as, washing feet, tail and scratching ears for blood desensitisation, all whilst ensuring safe procedure. While at Knowsley Safari, I undertook a study creating a body condition scoring chart for Red River Hogs. I was then given the opportunity to attend and present this at the 2017 BIAZA conference at Edinburgh Zoo, along with my final year dissertation. I regularly aided the team in carrying out 'Elephant experiences' for the public, by either sharing my knowledge about the species or demonstrating our training routine. I also helped to deliver educational sessions to children and adolescents aged from 5 years to 18 years, based on conservation and research on different mammal species. Show less
